Arguably one of the most innovative Russian TV comedy shows of the 1980's. Stylistically, the Funny Guys was inspired by the British Monty Python Show and was a Russian way "for something completely different". The program was created by Andrew Knyshev who was a big fan of the British hit show of the 1970's which had never been heard of by most of the Russian viewers at that time. Being a creative blend of television art and stand-up comedy sketches, the show was considered one of the "funkiest" TV programs and had a tremendous audience feedback. For me, this show was also very important because it was my break through into broadcast production in 1984. The Funny Guys featured a lot of writers, directors and performers who later became famous Russian TV personalities of the 1990's. |
