Vladimir Petrov scored three goals, and assisted
on two others to lead the Soviet Union team to a
hard fought 7-5 victory over the Cincinnati Stingers
Tuesday night in the second game of a challenge
series with the World Hockey Association.
The Soviets defeated the night before by the New
England Whalers,
had to fight back three times in the final period
after the Stingers
tied the game.
Cincinnati's Richie Leduc scored two of the tying
goals in the third period and Rick Dudley tied it
at 5-5 after Petrov netted a shorthanded goal.
The Stingers pulled the goalie out of the net in
an all-out effort
to score on a power play following a Soviet penalty.
However,
Petrov stole the puck and passed it to Victor Shalimov
who scored
the clincher.
