SUPER SERIES '75-76: CSKA and Krylya Sovetov in North America

CSKA and Krylya Sovetov vs. NHL clubs
  December 1975 - January 1976

It was the first Superseries between the top European and NHL team on a club level. The series was associated with a huge press and expectations on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. The Soviets lost the '72 Summit Series in a very close race and won the '74 Summit Series vs. Team Canada. According to the NHL, Team Canada '74 (WHA) wasn't as good as Team Canada '72 (NHL). The '72 Summit was held in the pre-season time when the NHL talent was far from their top shape. Besides, the top NHL pro had a much better performance with their clubs than with occasional national teams of that time.

Based on the agreement with the North American side, CSKA was reinforced with Alexander Maltsev, Valery Vasiliev (Dynamo Moscow) and Slava Solodukhin (SKA Leningrad). The Soviet Wings had four ringers from Moscow Spartak. The results of the series were sensational in a way that both sides were able to celebrate emotional victories. The Soviet clubs dominated over the NHL clubs with overall victory (5W-2L-1T). The NHL claimed that the face-off between the NHL and USSR Champions, Philadelphia vs. Red Army, was won by the North Americans. The same happened in the game between the leagues' vice champions when the Sabres won in Buffalo.
