"There was nothing we could do to stop the Soviets in game one. I felt like I was playing on my knees against Soviet speedsters like Kharlamov and Yakushev."

Rod Seiling
Team Canada # 16

By the time the Summit Series began, Rod Seiling earned a reputation of a solid veteran defenseman with years of experience of playing with the pre-expansion NHL teams. His reliable steady performance in defense was a key factor for his invitation to play against the Soviet team in 1972. In fact, the defense pair of Seiling and Awrey was considered the strongest in the team Canada’s training camp prior to the series.

PERFORMANCE IN THE 1972 SUMMIT

Rod Seiling played in three games of the Summit Series and had a "minus 6" performance. The Awrey - Seiling pair of the defensemen was the best during the training camp of Team Canada. However, they were not flexible enough to compete with the fast forwards of Team USSR.
